AHCI ?

Using 2 1tb wd blcks . Decided not to use raid just two drives one for the os and all applications and the other for just data ( movies files pictures)
what do you guys reco for a setup just leave them on auto or should i set ahci ? i am just trying to get this optimized before my os arrives on thursday ? YES FIRST BUILD AND I APPRECIATE ALL YOUR HELP NOW WHO GETS BEST ANSWER?

I'd leave them on auto. In most cases you don't need to change the default settings anyway.

In order for you to use AHCI ( which enables you to hotswap an external HDD ) you will have to follow the procedure in your MB Manual to install the driver, either via Floppy or USB drive. Similar to installing a RAID driver.
So if you dont plan on wanting Hotswap DISABLE ACHI and RAID because you arent using.

Vista and Windows 7 support AHCI out of the box and it's the modern standard for the drive to software interface. For a new OS you should use AHCI, only use something else if you're installing XP or another older OS and you don't want to have to load drivers during the installation process.
