Hi,

I was about to get an external hard drive, but the futureshops web site is retarded, they haven't sell any of these drive since a long time.

So I'm now looking at this one: WD 1TB.

Any suggestion? +1?

Get an external enclosure with Powered eSATA. Not normal eSATA since powered eSATA would only require one cable - no separate power cable. Some may have both Powered eSATA and USB, the USB always works, for powered eSATA you need a very new motherboard or an addon controller that adds some powered eSATA ports.

Using powered eSATA would give you the highest speeds, while USB gives you the maximum compatibility. In the future, USB 3.0 would be able to run at 4,8 gigabit bandwidth, delivering some 200-250MB/s throughput. USB will continue to have higher latencies than eSATA though, and may not be bootable by all operating systems.
