Well Im pretty new to these forums so I hope Im posting this request for help in the right place?

Anyway I have just purchased an HD 3850 512MB card for my 2nd PC. The trouble is Im not getting any video output from the card. The PC has an OEM 300W PSU (which I know is too low really and Ill be upgrading asap), it also has an Elite Group Geforce6100SM-M motherboard, which already has onboard video. When I connect the video card my and turn on the PC, video continues to be displayed via the onboard video with no output coming from the HD3850. If I let Windows start it detects the HD3850 and installs the drivers as expected.
Now if I take the video card out of this PC and put it into my friends PC it works. So I know the card is'nt faulty. My friends PC has a similar spec motherboard without onboard video and a good quality 500w PSU.

So my question is , could this be down to the PSU in my PC ? Or has anyone else encountered a smiliar issue with a Elite Group Geforce6100SM-M motherboard? I've doubled checked BIOS settings on the board and everything looks correct , even the use ext GPU if present is enabled.

Some computers require that you disable the onboard video in the bios. It's pretty ancient, but that could be it.

Unfortunately I dont have the option to disable it. My BIOS options are Enable or Disable when external GPU is present. I set the 2nd option but it makes no difference :(

Problem solved. BIOS was the right direction Slobogob. My motherboard did'nt automatically switch to the external HD3850. I had to set PCI Config -> Display PCI-E Slot. Typically buried behind a plethora of settings.
