i have a bfg 8800gt .i have been overclocking since i bought it last yr.its stock clocked at 625 core and 900 memory.i never oc the memory because i heard its easy to mess your card up.i run the core at 690 when im playing games (cod4) mostly.lately its getting hotter than usual (95c)and i get some artifacts.am i killing my card?is that way to hot?normally it runs around 63c

Yes! The fact that you're already seeing artifacts means you may already be damaging your card! :(

Usually 80C is the limit for safe gaming temps on 8800GTs (I have one).

Try turning up the fan speed if you haven't and if you already have downclock it and see if the artifacts persist.

i was always running the 8800s fan at full speed when i oc,because i use headphones for gaming anyways.i ended up taking the side panel off my case and pointing a house fan in there,seems to be working so far lol.i wanted something new anyways :)

my 7300 gs is running at 70 idle + 100 C load, very funny lol

 

its a granddad of a card though

Try blowing out your card with a can of air. I had a similar issue when my GPU fan had too much dust in it, temps rocketed up. A good case cleaning couldn't hurt anyway :)

you most likely haven't damaged it my hd4870's idle at 60 and full load can hit 100, but it wont even throttle it down till it reaches 100c :P damage occurs at 110c +
