Why not? Flashed my bios countless times in windows. No problem at all
If it's "countless times" then you're extremely lucky. Flashing in Windows can corrupt bios. Chances are low, but it's unpredictable and if you're unlucky, it's a dead board.
Better not risk it unless you're using a board with multiple bios, like Gigabyte's x38/48 models.
Do not flash the BIOS period unless your having a problem that the newer BIOS file addresses. Flashing the BIOS for just the sake of having the latest one is a risk not needed.
If you must flash I do agree DO NOT FLASH IN WINDOWS, and if you can't read the instructions in the motherboard manual and understand what they are telling you to do then don't atempt doing it. Take it to someone that knows what they are doing.
^ right on here.
Unless you need a BIOS update to fix something, flashing your BIOS is completely pointless. If you are not having any problems with your current BIOS, the very best advice anyone can give you it simply leave it alone.
^True, unless of course you are a hard core OCer who's concerned about every bit of performance you won't need to mess a lot with the BIOS flashing/modding.
Well if you really need to update your bios, ie to fix a problem or update the cpu microcode for a newer chip, You can find step by step directions on Asus's website.
The rampage is a newer board. I think it allows a bios update actually from the bios with many different media selections CD, flash drive, floppy.
All you need to do is follow the directions.
Google it, there might be a video showing how to.
you know it really amazes me at all the folks who tell others not to flash "from windoze",,firstly,,,, you are NOT flashing from windoze it is being done from dos, when the flash is done the system has to be rebootedand can go back to windoze,, the same procedure is taken when one uses norton's ghost,, the system is booted to dos for the ghost and when done is rebooted bask to windoze the ghost cannot be made whilst windoze is running,in the old days we used to use the win command to call up windoze,, it is the same when the system runs chkdsk on the primary partition it must be done from dos,,too many windoze/crappy apps running, must be shut down to run chkdsk,,, AND that's why you Always have to reboot your computer after flashing the bios...

Thanks alot for the info guys.I called up Asus and after 3 hours on the phone they said they recommend downloading the bios from there site and flash it thru Asus Update but what they didnt say is which bios should i download? the newest one is 4.10,should i download the newest one or older one? ugh frikin confuseing.
Again DO NOT update through Windows. Read the manual on how to use EZ Flash.
Also again please provide full specs. (CPU, motherboard, etc).
Well, if you don't know how to updated it outside of Windows, might as well use the utility. It would be something like 5% risk compared to 100%. Then again, if you don't know how to do it properly, it's better to not do it at all.
