I have always heard it pronounced "Tree-O" but on a contest announced on
television it was pronounced more like "Tray-O".

No real purpose to this question except boredom.

It's pronounced Treeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee - Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

However, if you're from Tokyo, I think you'll find it pronounced
Taleegehkonofambil,nahheehan,touwekinci,tomfwa-O (by the way, that's all one
word, I have merely added the commas to assist in pronounciation.

:-)

I think that the first section ends 'fambeel'.
Furthermore, in the tonal far eastern languages, the commas change the
whole meaning of the word, so it should be, as you state:

Taleegehkonofambeelnahheehantouwekincitomfwa-O
