hi all,

i'm running an htpc with:

epox 9npa mobo
amd athlon 64 3200
1gb ram
120 sata harddrive
dvd burner

my psu died a month ago, so being on a limited budget i ordered this 480w:

and life was good again.

then, last week my gpu fan (7600gs) died. so, i ordered a 8600 gts (i do very light gaming on this thing).

...and now the computer doesn't turn on at all...no lights, no fans, nothing. my question to you guys is do you think my psu is poweful enough for the 8600? i'm tempted to think maybe not, since the 7600 just drew power from the slot and the 8600 has an aux power input. Even so, it should have the necessary watts and amps, no?

i know you're not supposed to, but i also tried it without the aux, and still nothing.

i thought maybe the card was bad, but it shouldn't prevent the machine from at least turning on, should it?

thanks for the help.

That PSU has a 12v rail amperage comparable to a quality 250watt psu, but it should still handle it, barely. That would be the most obvious problem that I can see.

Comparison:

that PSU is only 370watt, but it has 27amps on the 12v.

The one you have is 480 watts, but only 16amps on the 12v. So the one above would be much more capable even though it has a lower wattage rating. here would be a cheap, quality PSU:

Unless somebody can find him a better deal.
