DVD Region change reset

I know that you can change the region on your PC's dvd drive, but this is limited by a number of changes. Obviously, this information is stored somewhere, and my guess would be on the drive's firmware.

My question/hypothesis is this; if you back up the drive's firmware, and then flash it when you run out of changes, would this restore your number of changes to what it was when you made the back up? Or do I have the wrong end of the stick entirely?

Re flashing your drives firmware will not restore the number of region changes. The number of region changes is stored in an area of flash ram that is not over written when changing the firmware.
