Been a long time since I built a comp and this one went fine but Im a little stuck on the front case usb ports. The connections coming from the case are labeled USB1 and USB2 and the male is one line like:

......

The female inputs on the board are labeled USB1 and USB2 and have 2 lines of pins like:

.....
......

Case and Mboard not compatable for that function or is there a simple solution? Everything else is fine. Just would like to use the front USB ports.

What case, what motherboard?

Does your case have a single USB connector or are they all seperate wires?

Your motherboard should be male and the case connectors should be female

A single female USB connector will have one hole blocked off to go along with the missing pin on the male connector. Also make sure you are looking at the USB and not the firewire connectors because mixing them up can damage your motherboard.

Top dots are AC97 botton is Hidef audio. Your case supports AC97 plug it on the row that it fits on. Then make sure the bios is set to AC97 front audio.

What do the audio connectors have to do with the USB?

Thanks. Will check into it. Mboard is GF7050VT-M and the case is Cooler Master Elite 340.

Thanks for the site. Read a little on it and it appears I have it hooked up correctly. Do I need to make any settings in the BIOS maybe? When I plug in a device Im getting nothing. I'll continue to read up.

I know what your problem is, I just built a system in that case (very nice case by the way for the price)

There are 2 flat 4 pin connectors and one of them has a single pin connector hanging off of it. If you look at the male motherboard connector you see the one extra pin, that's where the single extra connector goes and the other connector that it's attached to goes on the following 4 pins. The other connector goes on the other 4 pins and you should be all set. Keep in mind that that made sense in my mind but if your still confused let me know.

You do need to enable USB in the BIOS but it should be enabled by default

Hmm. Got it hooked up that way but nothing happens when I plug a USB device in the port. I'll recheck my connections.

Check that the 4 pin connector isn't reversed

Did you install the drivers for the chipset?

Sometimes USB won't be enabled until you install the chipset drivers especially with XP because it doesn't have the number of drivers Vista does.
