I have a P5W DH and have just popped in a Q6600 G0 - I have a question re speedstep... I have found that when speedstep is enabled in BIOS, speedstep is disabled, but when I disable speedstep in BIOS, it enables speedstep...

BIOS is showing the exact opposite of what actually happens - it this a common feature with this MB / CPU combo?

I fully understand what speedstep is, nothing new in the sticky...

My FSB is 1333, running a Q6600...

With speedstep enabled, the core speed at idle is 3.00GHz

With speedstep DISABLED, the core speed at idle is 2.00GHz - and ramps up to 3.00GHz under load...

clock speed readings all from cpuz

Is this a P5W DH glitch

OK heres my experience with an Asus Maximus and speed step not disabling. If it was enabled before I changed the multiplier from auto the speed step option is hidden and meant to be disabled but continues to work. Likewise if its disabled before I switch the multiplier it discontinues working.

Might not apply to you in any way but perhaps its a shared bug?

I hope you find an answer but is having SpeedStep on really that bad after all? All it does is reduce the clock speed / heat when the chip is idle.
