Hello. I just bought the ENGTX280 card. When I opened the unsealed box, I found that the card was in an open bag without a seal. As you know, manufacturers usually seal the bag to prove that the card has not been used. I also found that while some of the cables are in plastic bags, the two cables (one end with eight pins and the other with six pins) are not. They are each wrapped by a thin piece of paper. In addition, I got only one manual titled "SpeedSetUp Graphics Card" which is for general ASUS cards. There is no specific manual or list of parts for this 280GTX card. As I have paid a lot for the card, I certainly want an unused/unopened one. Could 280GTX owners please confirm if this is the same for everybody? Thanks.
Whereever you got it from send it back for what you actually paid for. If you paid for a brand new product you dont expect to get an opened possibly pre-used product.
I live in a small city in Korea. They don't have anything "high-end" or "latest" in stock. I bought the card in one of the biggest stores in Seoul. When I saw the box, it bent a bit. I asked the sales to give me another one. He called somebody to bring me a new one but that guy refused. The sales then changed the story and told me that it was the only one they had. If I have problem, I could return it (it took me about $50 to go there.) He probably know that it would be difficult to find such "high-end" item in other places. As I don't speak Korean, I did not know what he was talking on the phone.
I also bought a motherboard (made by ASUS) from another store. It seemed to be a new one but there was also no seal. It is hard to tell if it is the way ASUS does thing or something fishy in those stores.
I went to the store to complain about the unsealed bag and cables. The sales had a look and decided to let me exchange for a new one. He asked his agent to bring in a new box. When they opened the box, the card in the new box was also in an unsealed bag. Except two cables, the rest of the cables were in sealed bags. The sales said that maybe ASUS in Korea does things differently. It might be that they don't put a seal on their products in this country. Could this be true? Anyway, I tried the exchanged card for a few hours and found that sometime when I drag items across the screen, the entire screen flashes. Not sure if it is time to give up on this card and get the ATI 4870.
