I'm looking to upgrade to another AMD motherboard, that will support the phenom 9950 be processor. I also might want to crossfire 2 4870's together alilbit down the road. What sort of chipset do I need to look at, and what brands are better? Is the 790gx better than the fx? If you could gimme some pointers, they'd be much appreciated!

790gx is not great for Crossfire (it runs at 8x+8x). 790fx is perfect for it (16x+16x). Here are two 790fx motherboards that support the 9950BE:

Get a Corsair 750TX or an Antec 850W for that Crossfire setup, btw.

Woot! thx for the reply. Yeah let me post my (current) system specs:

Antec 900 case
corsair 750w PSU
EVGA 8800 gs GPU
amd 5200+ dual core (2.67 ghz) cpu
4 x 1gb 800mhz ddr2 OCZ platinum revision 2 ram
'n other junk ^_^

From what looking I had done into the MSI board, it seems to have alot of layout problems with cards as long as the 4870. I looked abit into the K9A2 Platinum V2, but the only difference I could see was they got rid of the promise chip, and therefore, the eSATA support. Doesn't seem to fix the card length issue, though.

Right, with the MSI you may need to bend some pipes. The Asus doesn't have the problem, apparently.

So then it comes down to: save a few $ up front, and void my warranty by bending pipes, or shell out a few extra $'s and buy the ASUS. hrm, I hope asus has decent tech support and what not

What does everyone think about that board? yeah, the pcie 2.0 slots would only be 8x and 8x in crossfire, but It seems like a pretty good board. Anythoughts?

Be certain that the board you get comes with the SB750 southbridge, as this allows for higher clockspeeds on Phenom processors.

I've heard and check some sites, saying AMD790 FX/X mobo will be integrated with SB750 in some point in the future, and that my friend will be your Phenom's bestfriend. I just dont know when.

Yeah, it does. Can anyone tell me what the average safe oc speed would be with a phenom 9950?
