Im a noob when it comes to overclocking so if someone could give me a step by step guide on how to do it that would be great this is my CPU and Motherboard:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 @ 2.66ghz
Asus P5KPL/1600

I would like to go to 3.0ghz no more and please dont reply unless you know how to overclock on this exact board

Just raise the fsb MR noob..........until you get upto 3.0ghz.
It will be no problem even with the stock cooler......
you can raise the fsb in the bios.

You idiot that is the best thing to do.
you dont need to read the whole guide just for getting ur cpu to 3Ghz from 2.66GHz.
