Hey guys I'm finally getting rid of my Dell E510 after 3 years. I been able to go ahead and get most of the parts for a home built rig. My current specs
Antec Tru Power Trio 550w
P4 Ht 3.2 (I know)
2x1G Kingston HyperX DDR2 800Mhz (dell mobo downclocks to 533)
WD (Dell Stock 7200RPM) 69G
WD 10000RPM Raptor 69G
EVGA 8800GT Superclocked
Windows XP "Media Center Edition" (Although all that Media Center crap is gone now)
I'm already basically decided on the new case, Antec900 and mobo, Asus P5Q. My question is, I'm looking at prices of the Q66 or 67 00's and I have read the overclocking guide in this sites OC forum. Ocing seems like alot of hassle, by having to monitor voltages in other devices. I stay busy enough as it is playing games and editing skate videos to have to Oc although I do use Rivatuner to Oc my Gcard. I can get a 6700 for only $20 more. Should I go with the 6600 6700 or even the 6800 or just OC. Taking all opinons Thanks guys.

OC'ing up to around 3ghz is dead simple: just said memory ratio 1:1, and set the FSB to 333 and its done, normally don't need voltage changes with q6600 (and thus, I imagine not with q6700)

So OCing a CPU is not that hard. I really dont know I've read up on it some in the past and of course found out Dell's are unoverclockable by the bios but some people have worked around and OC them through clockgen. My other question would have to be is the q66/6700 OCd gona run Crysis/COD4 ok. It's really easy tell the bottlnecking points, when the fps drop to 20 at the same points no matter what the res or FSAA. I typlically play games on my older Panasonic HDTV at around 800x600 and even 640x480, Its an older 480i tube tv but is still great HD. Anyway all advice is greatly appreciated.l

Typically your CPU is not the bottlenecking factor. However since you claim to game at 800 x 600, or 640 x 480 (does Crysis even support those?), CPU can become a very big limiting factor.

Here is my suggestion: instead of saving up money for quads, spend those money on a new digital high definition tv, or a decent high resolution LCDs. A decent 22" LCD will only set you back about 250 bucks or so. In return, you get much higher resolution (1680 x 1050), and much better image quality.

Buy a Q6600 (GO SLACR) and dialup 9 X 333FSB straight out of the box - instead of 266 X 9 stock.

That's 3Ghz ... and you will usually not even have to increase the core voltage to do it.

No pressure ... no need to push it any more either.

A quad at 3Ghz chews through anything I can throw at it with one 9600GT.

No need to be greedy.

That's extreme territory for budget cost.

Why spend an extra $20 on a Q6700 ??

Good luck with the build.

Hey guys, Yeah CRYSIS supports 800x600 but not 640x480. I heard that about less CPU usage at highe framerates. I never understood though or thought it was right. Why is that? It seems like when I'm running my 8800GT Superclocked at 700/1744/950 at wants to artifact and lockup at high res. Is this because at higher res the GPU is working harder reducing stress on the CPU?
And by running at higher res (I can go 1280x1024) can I reduce the bottlenecking of a 3.2 P4HT
But anyway I'll probablly just go q6600. I asked this final question in another forum but is unanswered so here goes-
Are the six 4-pin "peripheral" connects on my new Antec Tru Power Trio 550w for case fans like say the ones on the Antec 900 case? Thanks for the help.

Also I found these SLACR q6600 Raynod, but what is it and is it neccesarry for good OCing or something? And dumb question but does new CPU come with heatsink or do I need to get a third party cooler. If so any type specifically?
