Hi,

I just wanted to know if it'll be OK to run a HD4850 on my board(GA-P35-DS3L). The reason I'm asking is that the Video Card spec says PCI-E 2.0, and my board spec only has PCI-E 16x. Will this be a problem? Or will my card be throttled back? If so, what kind of performance hit can I expect?

Thanks!

It should work fine. If I'm not mistaken, PCI-E 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.1 most boards from a few years ago had. The newer boards have 2.0, but I don't think they are using the bandwith yet, maybe in the last cards the finally start using it?

PCI-E 2 is compatible with PCI-E 1.1. As for bottleneck, you won't notice for PCI-E 1.1 still has bandwidth enough for all current applications.

Your 4850 will run just fine on your P35 Mb. You will see no performance degradation using PCIe 1.1 over 2.0 with your card.

This is not a PCIe 1.0 mobo - it is 1.1 and it should be absolutely fine.
