A copy of <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. I thought there was a backup cd. When I run it, it locks up after it starts. Can't get past that point.
 


That's the kernel which as it's name implies, lies at the heart of things so if it's gone wrong, you may not just be able to replace it. However, you should have at least ten of them scattered around the system and the main one will be in c:\windows\system32 so if you find the backup in, say, c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386, copy it into system 32.

To do this, you'll need external access - either a Linux LiveCD or Hirens MiniXP. Post back if you need more details on that.
