Hoping to get some options on how to proceed on a new build. I've already purchased a ThermalTake M9 case and an Antec Neo 650 PSU.
I'm looking at getting a a p45 chipset if I go Intel or maybe a 780g if I use AMD. I do want to have a capable gaming system. Not afraid of mild overclocking and budget is an issue. I've had to buy things slowly and my old system is completely unusable to scoure much for upgrade except for a DVD drive and maybe a HDD but both are IDE.

4850 or 4870. P5Q Deluxe. 2x 2GB DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 2T @ 2.0-2.2v, E8400 or Q6600. E8400 will perform better in most games, but Q6600 is a quad and thus more planned for the future. Also get a WD6400AAKS.

Either way, I'd recommend a Q6600 OEM. It's $10 off retail, and that $10 can go towards a ACF7P that's $27. You can overclock with it too, and it's quiet, easy to install, and cools very well. You might want a better cooler if you want to take your Q6600 to 3.6 GHz though.

Wish the 4850 would drop in price. Do you think a cheaper cpu for a start will suffice for mild gaming? I'd upgrade later to a faster CPU I agree with the DDR2-800 but should I look at faster memory? I'm also looking at a CM Hyper TX CPU cooler they seem to get great reviews. Have to get back to work. I'll get back later
