The 8800 GT card I just got is pretty long. It comes within about 2" of my hard drive cage. The PCI Express power connector is on the end of the card, and this is enough room normally. BUT, there is a spot for a 120 mm fan to pull air through the hard drive cage. This takes up another 1.25" so that all I have left for the power connector is 0.75". This makes the power connector really tight against the 120 mm fan grill.
Does anyone know of a low-profile PCI Express power connector I can get (like a right-angle one maybe)? I'm half considering unsoldering the power connector on the board, and then resoldering it in place so that it points up, orthogonal to the card rather than along the length of the card.
You can solder the PCI-E wires to the card, but it most likely will void the card's & psu's warranty. A better way is to mod the bundled molex-to-PCI-E adapter.
