I'm sure this is a question covered somewhere under the FAQs, and if so my apologies, but I wasn't able to find it right off. Looking over newegg, for the 4850, we've got Asus, Sapphire, VisionTek, MSI, Diamond, HIS, PowerColor, GigaByte, and PALiT...

I guess I'm just ignorant as to the differences (if any) between brands for the same video card. Is it mainly in the support/warranty, or are there actual quality differences in the hardware?

Beyond that, who would you recommend going with, and why?

At this point, there no difference other than support and warranty. Same chip on the same reference board. It's a matter of pasting on different lables.

Thats what I read too.

But is that also mean the exact same parts for all the circuitry? For instance, is it true that Sapphire is using more higher quality japanese capacitors in their card. It wouldn't make their card perform better than any other, but maybe more reliable on the long term?

I have no idea if it's true though.

Your biggest interaction with the maker of your graphic cards is going to be downloading drivers (if you don't go straight to ATI) and warranty support. Check out their websites, which is easier to navigate ? Which one has the best support for problems/warranty/drivers? Any have a forum for consumer help ? Pick the one that spends a bit of time and money on their customers. I like Visiontek, but ymmv.

I went with the Powercolor. Few dollars cheaper, works great. 2 years warranty like the rest.

VisionTek has a lifetime warranty
