Hi - Just got a Dell Vostro and wondered how it would compare gaming wise to my old Dell C840. I know they're both extremely unsuitable for gaming, but I was interested which one is best. Thanks very much in advance
Old laptop - Dell C840 Cpu Pentium 4 M 1.6 / Memory 512mb DDR / Graphic card Nvidia GEForce 4 440 Go / Win 2000
New laptop - Vostro 1510 Cpu Core 2 duo T5670 1.8 / Memory 3072 mb 667 DDR2 / GMA X1300 Graphics / Vista Business
Could you also compare the 440 Go with the integrated GMA X1300? Which one wins?
The Vostro would(should) win by a few(3-20fps depending on game/settings), why don't you download 3DMark06(~100+MB) and run it on them and see? If you need a light weight benchmark(<70MB download), download Aquamark3 and see.
Hi - thanks for the answers. I'm a complete novice when it comes to this stuff - I know what benchmarks are but havent got a clue how to use them. Does the integrated GMA X1300 own the 440 Go, then?
I'm pretty sure you mean X3100, but whatever... we get what you're saying. Once you factor in the extra memory and faster CPU, I just don't see how the newer laptop won't beat the crap out of the older one... even if it does have the X3100 pushing the video.
Oops - yes you're quite right - it is indeed the X3100!! See- I even got that wrong!! Thanks for these replies tho - maybe I'll retire my old machine to me Mums for when I visit her. Thanks a lot Wise men of Toms. If you ever need any help regarding British Glam rock of the early 70's you know where to find me!
My niece has a Dell laptop with the Intel Graphics Media Deccelerator X3000 or X3100 (don't remember) in it. It struggles with Guild Wars on low settings, so don't expect much, even though it will beat your old one. The extra memory helps.
