I have 2 laptops and a desktop which I want to use simultaneously
I bought a dlink d300 router for this .
My college ips are in range 10.10x.*.*
and i want all the three machines to have ips in same range and not 192.*.*.* blah
Can anyone tell me how to do this
Since i am a newb a detailed solution will be appreciated
ok the router itself will have the 10.10x ip, does your college use mac locking to restrict access to the network? if so you will need to use mac spoofing on your router to pretend its the registered machine.
if you are going to be joining the local file sharing circuit you will need to set up virtual servers/port forwarding on your router to point to a particular machine, for this its best to use a static ip on the machine you want to share.
you can manually set whatever range of ip's you like, it doesnt really matter, just have to look in the lan / wifi settings to set this.
as long as all your machines use dhcp (automatic ip assignment) you wont need to worry about settings them up with the ip, just set whatever you want in the router lan settings and the router will do the rest.
