my specs:
e4500 core 2 duo 2.2 ghz
Asus P5K-vm (g33) motherboard
corsair xms2 800 mhz 2 x 1024 mb
xfx 8600gt 1 GB ddr2
350 watt supply
stock cooling

now i want to overclock my cpu on stock cooling. i went to the bios and changed the fsb to 245 so the processor went to 2.7 ghz with normal temperature at aroud 48 degrees. the system was completely stable according to prime95. i ran the tests for 45 mins. then i changed the fsb to 265 so processor was at 2.9 but the system failed to load up. the voltages were at auto.
i want to reach atleast 3.2 on stock cooling. is there a safe way to do that changing the voltages? And another question, what is the max. temp at which the cpu will be safe? please give me a friendly suggestion because i do not want to waste my processor.

Does you rmotherboard let you change the CPU voltage? if so, try 1.35 to see if it's stable. If it is, you can lower little at a time.

You're going to need something like Artic Cooling Freezer Pro 7. I bought an open box one at Newegg for $13 and it works great on my e4500 at 2.9 Ghz full time.

well, i ran prime 95 tests on default settings for 16 min and the temp raised at a max. of 52 degrees. then i went in the bios and set the voltage to 1.35 and fsb to 265 so cpu was at 2.92 ghz. then i ran the prime 95 tests and the temp went to 59 degrees in 2 minutes. now is this safe or i definately need a cpu cooler?

You need a CPU cooler if you're going to overclock full time. That CPU will literally fry after an hour of Prime 95 with that overclock setting and stock fan.

ok then please tell me will the cooler master Hyper N520 be ok with these settings?

It seems to be a good cooler. It's large so better to research if there are issues with it fitting on your motherboard.

I've used the same cpu and the same cooler at a higher overclock without a problem. highly recommended.
