I have a HP DV6810US laptop, with a TSST Corp – L632N Lightscribe dvd writer. My DVD drive suddenly disappeared from BIOS and Windows last week. However, it intermittently is detected. The drive still receives power, because I can open/close the drive before the windows os is loaded. I have tried the following, but it has not worked:- 1. Upper/Lower filters and Microsoft Fix It solution 2. Uninstalling the IDE device driver from Device Manager, and rebooting the system 3. Removing the dvd writer from the bay and reseating it again. 4. Complete reinstall of Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit PS: the drive was detected today for about 10 mins, after which it has disappeared again. Does this sound like a drive problem, or a motherboard problem

Also check for bios updates for your motherboard.
