I need to get a very fast system for research as soon as possible. I read that Nehalem will be out in October. When can I buy the CPU and motherboard to build a high-end Nehalem PC? Earlier, middle or late October? What price range would you expect? Which type of RAM would you recommend for such system? Thanks.
From what I have read, Nehalem will be released in late 2008 but for only highend desktop and dual-processor platforms and then in Q3 2009 for mainstream desktop and mobile platforms.
Intel's x58 chipset will be released alongside Bloomfield to support the chips. Expect to pay a premium on the motherboards and chips for being an early adopter. Also, the only RAM you'll be able to use is DDR3.
For DDR3, what speed do you recommend? 1600MHz or over? I also consider to build a system for a family member using Core 2 Duo E8600 (3.33GHz) and Asus Extreme Rampage. Do you think the Nehalem system will be more than 30% faster than this?
lol when i said $3500, i meant for everything, from monitor to video cards to case....
i just implying the fact that he will pay top dollar
Eklipz, I was going to either get a E8600 or Q9550 and a ATI 4870 (or a 4870x2 or 4850x2). Im not even going to bother with Nehalem for a while. I read articles on it and it sounds great but I'd rather wait till the prices come way down. I've learned when you jump fast to get the hot new item, the prices are rediculous. Id rather spend between now and few months (I'm watching what has been and will come out) and see what's coming out. Besides Nehalem in the coming months, anything worth waiting for? I heard that Intel is adding to the Yorkfield family and subtracting from the Kentsfield family. I've also been looking to see if ATI and Nvidia are going to add more products soon. Otherwise I think I will settle with the 4870 (unless the prices go down on the 4870x2).
You should be able to buy parts for Nehalem before Nehalem freezes over.
Seriously ... you can't get the chip, mobo with the socket or an aftermarket cooler yet.
I big honking graphics card might be a start along with a whopper of a power supply (hoping they still code to the same plug and pinout as a current ATX (24 plus 4 pin).
What ram does it use ?? DDR3 or DDR2 ??
