My motherboard does see my 2x 2GB Kingston modules during the BIOS POST test. However, when it displays the equipment overview screen, it reports less then 3gb memory in the "extended memory" overview. This is before Windows XP (32bit) is loaded. I have been doing some extensive searching into this "extended memory" limitation. I believe this to be my BIOS settings. So I am confinced (and I can be mistaken) that my problem is in BIOS as a memory misconfiguration.
I will attempt to insert photos (if this is possible on this forum) of my post screen tests of the PC booting.
All Asus documentation states it does support 4gb memory, and so it does seem so within the bios settings. But it goes wrong with the BIOS reporting less then 3gb extended memory. Can anybody give advice as to how to set the BIOS to report more then 3GB extended memory? I believe Windows XP simply follows suit as to what the BIOS offers. I even believe installing a 64bit OS, will not make the difference either untill this problem is resolved.

I have the same mobo... after reading the manual I think I solved your problem. You are using 333mhz RAM the mobo uses DDR2 and the lowest listed speed ram is ddr2-533. Second the board specifically states that you should use unbuffered non - ECC ram.
