my left click mouse functionality has gone haywire.

when I single click, windows will sometimes behave as if I've double clicked. if I'm holding down the left mouse button to do something, windows will randomly "let go" without me moving my finger off the left mouse button.

This happens in explorer, in adobe applications, in games, in word, everywhere in Windows.

It started with my Logitech Performance MX, so I swapped to my old wired Intellipoint Explorer, but I get the same behavior.

I have run a virus scan with 3 different scanner, and uninstalled and reinstalled the logitech and microsoft mouse software.

I am starting to go a bit nuts and wondering if I just need to reinstall windows!

can anyone PLEASE help me?

Ahh... but I'm a believer in that Lightening can strike twice. (or, you should see my collection of dead mice), I keep them only for the attached cords.

In your situation, perhaps a mouse of a different connection type will show a persistant problem. Using PS2? try USB... or likewise.
