ok after my recent upgrade i didnt bother with the graphics card as i knew the 4870's were on there way , now there out do i go for the 512mb 4870 or spend the extra money on the 1gb version due at the end of the month.
also on a side note anyone seen the new thermalright gfc cooler , http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_ [...] trad2.html

a possibility would be to get a 512 MB now, and then get a 1gb later and Xfire them.
and yeah, that cooler is pretty awesome, wouldn't mind putting one of those on the 4870 i want to get. ;)

^^ don't CF cards with different memory sizes, they'll both run at 512 mb

I would probably wait for the 1GB version if you do 3D/mmo gaming. The extra memory for textures would help. I'm not positive, but I think if you tried to xfire a 512 and a 1gb card, doesn't it treat both cards as 512? if so that would be something to keep in mind.

But that cooler does look pretty nice.

Also with a 1gig 4870, you'll be able to CF it with the 4870X2 (since all cores will have 1 gig)

hmm thats decided it then , thanks for that jonyb222 , didnt realize that was possible to do. i was tempted to wait for the X2 but with the prices on the single cards being so good and the performance of them , there more than capable for my samsung 22" 226bw screen as 1680x1050 is the max rez.
