Western Digital external hard drive computer chips power source

I have a western digital external hard drive MDL #: WD25001032 and it worked the last time it was plugged in and now it just simply won't power up. I have it taken apart and have the power source chip disconnected. Do u think that it is possible to purchase and replace this actual component and would it be smart to start there? Or is there any other suggestions that any one can share with me perhaps in my trouble shooting efforts?
