It feels like the only exciting hardware stuff happening right now is the whole GT 200 vs HD 4xxx wars going on right now. Not to say it isn't good, but... well... that's all that's going on. I haven't heard about anything revolutionary, or even evolutionary, regarding CPUs, RAM, Cases, PSUs, Monitors, weird input devices (i.e. Novint Falcon or whatever that was), HDDs, SSDs, Mobos, etc. for the rest of the year. It just feels like we're all waiting for the next big thing in Q1 of 2009 when Nehalem, Deneb, Larrabee, Intel's SSDs, X58 boards and the new generation of GPUs (after only 6 months, damn they're getting quick at this) all hit us at once.
Another slight gripe of mine is that I remember there being promising technologies I heard of mostly through Tom's Guide and other news on the front page that I haven't heard a single other word of for a long time, some of which include... - Researchers making a fab process that producers transistors and other circuitry that's up to six times cooler than what we have now. - Some dude discovered the secret to revolutionary air cooling that involved getting the molecules very close to the metal fins on a heatsink to stop sticking to the metal and move. - That huge, curved monitor that Alienware was touting at Computex this year or one of those earlier shows. It had a resolution of like 3000 x 1000 or something and it looked damn awesome with the panoramic view.
So, what happened to all that cool stuff? Is it all still in the works? Were they developed/integrated/released quietly? Is everything I read from the newsreel on the front page a lie?
I know this isn't totally about graphics (some of it is) and it's kind of a rant, but... well... this is how I feel.

Well, Seagate just announced 1.5TB 7200RPM desktop drives, Nehalem is coming out in a few months (Q4 08, not Q1 09), and Dell just released some (admittedly slight) updates to most of their LCD line.
Take a deep breath. Tech changes are occurring more rapidly than in the past, and they will continue that trend as time goes on, but I think you are a little impatient.
I just want to know where the heck are the air-cars that I was supposed to be commuting around town in?
They told me in the 60's that I'd have an air-car by now... :-/
Ok, most of the stuff, I admit, needs time and is forthcoming and yes I do get impatient sometimes.
Still, I am curious about some of those advances I mentioned. Anyone know anything about that huge curved screen they showed off at Comutex or CES this year? (forget which electronics show off convention it was)

You mean the Alienware Curved Monitor? I think they said second half of 2008, but I don't see it on their website.
Do you have the cash for that? If so, do you want to be friends?
