Power GTX 680 and i7 3960x

Core i7 3960x (OCed)
4x HDD
64 GB quad channel memory


Which PSU should i go for?
I am currently looking at Ultra x3 1600w.
Anyones selling 2000w PSU?

Please help

if you are considering a build like that, then you should be able to answer the question yourself.

whats the most important, amps or watts?

how many of those 'most important' things do you need.

Its not going to be a simple build, there will be lots of issues that you'll have to deal with, you don't sound like you have the experience to be honest.

Frankly if i had the money for a buld like this i'd be high;y tempted to go for 2 x 690's your power requirements will be lower and the performance would be damn close.

Acctually tri sli 680 would most likly be the best bet imho.

for w/c quad 680's the loops and rad setup is going to be very specialised is my opinion. Dual 690's a bit easier.

Well am not experienced at this field.Thats why i asked.

My client is specific with the quad sli thing.

i know 1600w is enough for factory settings.
But never did an over clock with 4 GPU. I heard 680 would hit 7GHz memory clock and 1.3 GHz core clock with ease.Dunno how much those monsters would draw at these clocks with voltage maxed out.

I'd say a good 1200Watt would be best for the job. Corsair makes a nice 1200Watt

um if you are building it for someone else you should try to talk them into getting SLI x2 on 690s save a few slots and alot of power as quad SLI seems out of your knowelge on how to do explaining that the board for quad SLI is not able to be found or some such as you have to take into account for physical room for the 4 cards and all the heat they will generate when under load.
For your answer i would go with a duel PSU solution instead of a single PSU using one PSU sololy for the 4 GPUs and the other PSU for the rest of the set up this way you will have enough power and enough connectors if you cannot find one PSU with enough 8-pin PCIe connectors for your setup.

In addition i have seen alot of severs with multiple redundent PSUs and a few workstations with unredundent PSUs because of power requirements. It is rare but it sounds like your client needs the special set up of a mulitple PSU set up just make sure the case has a space for each PSU.
With a 2 PSU solution to your problem you will get "cleaner" power to your GPUs and the ratio of power drawn to power used will be closer to 90% then if you go with a single PSU solution and have to get very close to useing all 100% of the PSU. with that PSUs used at 100% do not last as long as 2 PSUs used at 50% even if they are the same make and model

Since the build is all about ego I think the Lepa 1600 is probably a good pick. It's overkill and a waste, but then so is quad SLI.

BTW, you DO have a responsibility to explain to your client that the performance of his 4 graphics cards will be exceeded by the performance of 2 graphics cards in less than two years, in my opinion.

And also, you are going to need about 3 or 4 good radiators. That means a very high end case.

You are looking at dual loops also.

Anyone spending 6K on a setup should understand that a 3K setup today and another 3K in two years is a far wiser expenditure.

if i had that id go with the 1600w but as everyone else said the 2 690s would be much better choice than quad sli

Talked to my client.Hes still persistent on a quad sli as he wants to experiment with overclocking. As for heat i am considering GTX 680 hydro copper . I am going for 2 radiator setup with one for 4 GPUs and the other for the CPU.

Tell him the only reason for quad SLI is for e-peen status (too much money, not enough brains). Dual 690's are damn near as good and much easier to deal with in a W/C setup.
