The only thing I would do, is add anotherd 120mm fan, drop the Zalman heatsink, get this instead: http://www.directron.com/u120e.html on the basis that its entirely superior in all cooling tests. I'd also change out the Asus motherboard for this DFI one instead. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813136042 Mainly because you get a higher quality motherboard, in terms of engineering, and features. You get dual gigabit lan, a bernstein sound card, and are one of the too few that own a DFI motherboard, instead of belonging to the masses that contribute to the giant that is Asus.

Uhh... is the case alright? A lot of people said its quite expensive "more expensive than your cpu" they also said to get a "p-182." I already have a X-Fi prelude. I'm just looking for a mobo that supports ddr2 800 or 1066 and the 4870 and future 4870x2. I chose that particular heatsink because otherwise, the side panels holding the fans would be blocked. Not sure whether to get the Creative Fatal1ty headset or the pc-166 or something else. Any recommendations to a headset with microphones? Hmm...not really sure about these things...I guess I need more experience. Well if anyone could answer my questions that would be great. I'll be heading off to bed soon...

You shouldn't need to mount fans on the side panel of the case where the cpu heatsink is, the air flow dynamics just doesn't make sense. A larger, more efficient cooler like the TRUE is going to keep your temperatures lower than the Zalman heatsink, you know? Even if you have 4 120s on the side panel blowing all over your components, its not going to help your cpu core temperature that much. Heat can only dissipate as quickly as it can be removed from the cpu. With the added heatpipes in the TRUE, this is going to help much more.

About the motherboard, even if it does come with a soundcard, that's a perk. DFI has been making nothing but amazing quality motherboards, and Asus has just been taking hints from companies as to whats successful. I don't like Asus, and I don't know why so many people buy from them, when alternatives, that are less advertised/publicized yet offer superior products. They may seem more expensive, and that can be a turn off, but since Asus is a huge company that can afford to undercut its competitors, its basically weeding out the competition in the same style Walmart does. I cannot think of one legitimate reason to pick the Asus motherboard over the DFI either, in the fairness of trying to get you the best for your money.

For the Headset, what you should do, is get a high quality headphones, then a clip-on style microphone, instead of a cheaply made bundle. Back in the dorms, I found the clip-on style microphone was awesome. You don't have a mic boom in front of your mouth, which makes eating or drinking soda much less of a chore. I was so happy with my roommates one, that after moving out, I searched online to find it. The point I'm trying to make is, high quality headphones + clip-on mic = win. I spent $100 on my Sennheiser HD555 headphones, and $13 on the microphone/volume control device. Not only have my ears been enjoying music like they never have before, I have gained a new respect to sound equipment engineering as a whole.

Those headphones will last...you won't have to worry about them crapping out a year later because a speaker in the side blew out, or the headstrap broke, nor will you have to wonder whether you got ripped off by a 1337 Gamer headset with virtual 100.1 and shallow selling points like glowing ear cups.

Here's a link to the microphone. It picks up sound well, I just clip it onto my headphone cord, forget about it, and converse with my friends online using a microphone I never even notice. Not only that, I have in-line volume control for on-the-fly adjustments.

This cooler:

That case seems a little overkill, why not a rebated Antec 900 for less than $100 or a clean looking Lian Li?

uhg. all wrong... :-p too much money, and i suggest win xp x64. If you simply MUST HAVE windows shi$ta, you might as well foot for ultimate, so you won't be as restricted. I also don't recommend supporting a company with shady business practices... just saying: anti trust, patent infringements, etc etc etc. it's a laundry list.

An excellent build, i'd change the heatsink and the case, but that's basically nit picking and personal preference. Here's a couple of nice cases.
Coolermaster 690 $85
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811119137
Antec 300 $70
Coolermaster Stacker full tower $160
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811119158
for a cooler the Xigmatek S1283 gets good ratings for coolness and for quiet
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835233003
don't forget to order the retention bracket because push pin mounting sucks.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835233019
an excellent build, any way you go with that basic setup is great.

Ditch the 640GB and get the WD7500AAKS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136131&Tpk=WD7500AAKS) it's bigger, faster, and quieter.

The WD6400AAKS is a good disk, but the 7500 uses new/better PMR technology.

Cheers and nice build, also, change the zalman, it's good, but others do just as good or a little better for the same/less money.

If this is for gaming, seriously consider an E8400, E8500, or Q9450.

Your GPUs are really going to be heating stuff up, if you can get a CPU that churns out less heat in your case, that will be a very good thing.

If its good in theory but not in practice,
its not good theory.

I chose the zalman specifically because it fits into the stacker. However, I might get a Stacker 810 or an Antec p-182. Someone recommended that I get a better/cheaper mobo. He recommended: But what other mobos are good? One of you mentioned that DFI was.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813128059
This is for gaming so I'll take you up with the 9450. I'll get the xigmatek 1283 if it fits in the stacker 810 or the antec p182. Which of these cases do you recommend? 810, 830 evo or p182? And also where is the microphone you were talking about. I already have a HD555. I'll need to get the parts quickly because the 4870 got restocked. Please help me fast!

Would the p182 have enough space for the stuff I have now? Also from what I've read steel does not dissipate heat well and aluminum does would I be better off with:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811133154
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6811133132
or with the p182. Please help me I'm gonna get my parts soon so I gotta be really sure...I really need help...
