How to Change Machine HostID?

Hello,

My mate at work had a problem with his Computer, the harddisk,
he's working as a Developer using a program which belongs to his Computer name , and Machine HostID ,
After we reinstalled the programs and windows(Windows XP Professional SP3 ) , the HostID changed and he cant use the program ,
Unfortunately i cant contact the Software's company about changing that , because the company was sold out before 6 months , and the New buyers cant locate the old HostID and stuff which i dont understand ...

Is there any way to change the Machine HostID my self to the OLD one so i can use the program?
