Can you get a motherboard to boot off of a IDE controller card?

Here is the situtation.

I got an old AM2 mobo from a friend. This mobo only has 1 IDE slot on it. The rest are SATA. My wife has 2 IDE harddrives and 1 DVD ROM and 1 DVD burner.

If I install a PCI - IDE controller card on this motherboard and hook the harddrive up to it what do you think the odds of it posting? The hard drive already has windows XP installed on it.

I am wondering if it will work or if I would have to install the drivers first.

Here is the device I am looking at:

it should, depends on the bios. Every new board i have seen has the ability to choose to boot to an auxillary controller before the integrated ones. What motherboard do you have, and we can look up the option in the motherboard manual.
