Sound card problems

I have a very old Gatway 500 T system. It has Pentium 3 500 MHZ Processor I seem to have lost the Sound Card somwhere along the way although when I look thro' the system it tells me everthing is working alright. is it just past it's 'sellby' date or retrievable?

check in the Control Panel under Sound and Audio Devices, choose the Audio tab, and check your playback devices for Sound and MIDI
