Okay here goes my first post....

I still have some time to cancel my order from newegg..... I just want to make sure there are no glaring compatibility issues. My aim was a medium end gaming system that can play crysis with medium to high settings and most other games at max at playable framerates. Now the HDD might seem small but im using this system only for gaming and have a laptop for general purpose computing. My main questions are:

Is the power supply enough?
9800gtx in a mid tower??? is it okay?

COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-WW Black/Silver Aluminum Bezel, SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Rosewill RP550-2 ATX12V v2.01 550W Power Supply

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel Motherboard

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

LINKSYS WMP300N 32-bit PCI Interface High-speed Wireless-N Wireless Adapter

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32-bit English 1pk for System Builders DSP OEI DVD

So what do you guys think? Any problems? weaknesses? How well will it run?

forgot to add price: $1253(thats with a gaming headset, keyboard mouse combo, and shipping included)

not sure about the powersupply; im guessing u'll be fine as long as you dont SLI. It might be a good idea to make this post before you order though lol

get a better power supply like a brand name enermax,,antec,, pc power and cooling,,,ocz,,,look at the newer psu's as they have a high efficency rating usually 80% under load, and if you are planning to sli in the future ,well,,you will need at least 600w psu at a minimum,go for the best that you can afford,or not,,you will never regret buying a top line power supply..
You can always take it with you when you upgrade in the future...:)

hmmm... two people suggesting that I up the power supply.

My question to you:Is it absolutely necessary? Will my system be stable with MINOR overclocking?

A mid tower with a 9800gtx? You realize those are like 10.5" long, right? I had to cut the HHD cage on my Gigabyte Aurora to get it to fit, and I had a 8800GTS 640 in there prior. Hope you have a shoehorn and some vaseline; it will be a tight fit.

I just read a review of the case on newegg and it said the 9800gtx will block one of the drive bays, however Im only planning on using two of the drive bays for my hdd and dvd drive... So I think im okay.... correct me if Im wrong

Replace that PSU. Good rule of thumb, don't ever buy anything Rosewill.

Yikes... thats alot posters recommending I change the PSU.... I guess I should then....

I agree on the power supply - best to avoid Rosewill power supplies as stated already. I would ditch the IDE burner for a SATA one. The Seagate 7200.10 is an older model - I would get a 7200.11 or the Western Digital 6400AAKS. Both would be faster, quieter, and cooler. Also you might think about going with Vista 64 bit since you're getting 4 gig of RAM. You won't be able to use all 4 gig with a 32 bit OS. 64 bit will also let you upgrade to more ram if you want to down the road. The new ATI 4850's look pretty sweet, but I guess perform the same as the 9800 GTX.

I never build system myself (yet rofl) but I dont understand why people get nvidia cards and put them on intel motherboards that only support crossfire to futureproof yourself?

eehh... I guess I understand the dumbness in my decision(my newbness shows).... however I dont plan on sli and if I ever want to do a dual config gpu... ATI cards are still great....

Overbuying the case and power-supply is ALWAYS a good idea. Doing so, you will avoid tons of "snarky", unexplainable issues.

Cancel the order while you still can! Get a better PSU(550w is fine), also get a different videocard! Grab one of those new HD4850s! They're less than $200 on most sites and better than a 9800GTX.

Reply to khaydin

too late to cancel order but I did order 64bit vista and will return the 32bit vista when I receive the orders. I will also return the power supply for another one.... Now Is it true that the HD4850 is better than the 9800gtx?

Reply to fchowd0696

alright made some changes

replace 32bit vista premium with 64 bit

This is the new power supply
PC Power & Cooling S75QB 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply

and instead of 9800gtx, I will have 2 hd4850s....

How is that now?

Reply to fchowd0696

you know how you bought the pc parts, came to this board and then asked if its good? well, you're going to be doing that in 5 months when you're in iraq.

1- Get 750W PSU and anything but not Rosewell
2- Get a 7200.11 or the Western Digital 6400AAKS Hard Disk
3- HD4850 better than 9800GTX and you can CrossFire later

lol at UPS.... I have 3 day select and my shipment is coming fro Cali. Tonight it arrived in East Boston( I live in North Andover.... about 15 miles north of Boston).... I thought maybe it might have a possibility of arriving Thursday instead of the scheduled time Monday(Friday is 4th of July.... UPS has a nice excuse to turn my 3 day select into a 6 day select). HOWEVER.... The tracking system states departure scan - East Boston and In transit to WINDSOR LOCKS, CT :pt1cable:

So let me get this straight. UPS has my package just 20 miles away from my house but decides to send it out another couple 100 miles just so they can send it to me Monday instead of tomorrow????? WTF  And my hopes for building it on a nice 4th of July weekend has vanished.

Anyways, thanks for the help you guys.... pointed me in the right direction.... Once I start my build I probably will have more questions.... unfortunately I have some time to wait thanks to UPS :pfff:
