Assuming you are running a fully-updated copy of Windows XP, you may have an old MB with a drive controller that can't handle larger drives. What model number motherboard do you have, and what model number drive did you install?

When you installed Windows on the system with the new motherboard, did you install all the drivers that came with the MB (or their updated versions)?
