Hi all:

I just ordered and received my new hardware which is as follows:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80569Q9550

OCZ Gold 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Quad kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2G8008GQ

EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

ABS Tagan BZ Series BZ800 800W ATX12V / EPS12V Patent Piperock Modular Power Supply

I already have the video cards, HD's and other peripherals. The video cards are Dual 8800 GTS 512mg and Fatality X-Fi Pro-Gaming Series sound card. My issue is, I have installed everything, the motherboard is getting power from the power supply (the lights on the MB are lighting up), but when I hit the power button on the front panel of the case, the power supply starts up for about 1 second then shuts down. I'm not really sure what the issue is here, but I tried with another power supply that I have which is in great condition as well, just not as powerfull and it does the exact same thing.

Would anyone have any idea as to waht the issue could quite possibly be?

try booting with just one stick of RAM first off, motherboard may not be supplying enough power to the RAM to boot.

So, if the MB isn't supplying enough power to the RAM, can that be fixed with in the bios then or is the MB defective? First time putting a comp together.

Does the PSU have a 20 pin, 6 pin and 4 pin connectors and are all plugged in?

make sure the 20/24 pin AND the 8/4 pin are plugged into the motherboard. If it still isn't booting then remove everything but 1 stick of ram, video card (unless there is an onboard video card), and processor. If that starts it up then just add parts until you find whats stopping it

If the ram is under volted then you can adjust the voltage to its correct setting from the bios menu.

Ok i tried removing everything, including the vid cards, took down to 1 stick of RAM and no RAM as well, still turns on for about a second and shuts off....I don't get any beeping or anything when it shuts off, and as far as i know thats a good thing...but what is really tickling me is that the MB is getting power....

do you have any old ram that you know works that you can try? also just to clarify you have both the 20/24 pin and the 8/4 pin connectors plugged in right?

Correct, I have them both plugged in and in the correct spots. I might have other ram lying around that i can try, and if that would not work? Sorry trying to get as much out of one step as possible since i really don't have access to a comp right now except for when im at work cause my other comp went completely dead on me.

If that doesn't work the i guess try taking out and putting the motherboard back in, checking for any metal (stray screws etc) that might be causing a short. If that doesn't work then im fresh out of ideas

that happened to me with my old rig. tried another psu and it worked fine, so i just sent my psu back to a newegg and got a new one which works fine.
