my friend fixes comps and he says he keeps getting broken wd caviar black for repair.... and he urges me not to buy it... what should i do? i love wd, it never let me down so far, but i dont want to lose my data....

They're fine. Avoid the Seagate 7200.11 series (the 7200.12 is fine though), but basically all current WD products are good as well.

I've had a 640 gig black for over a year now, no issues, if your worried, get an in store warranty. And if your wondering why ud waste cash on a black+warranty, because no brand is perfect.
