I have a budget of 600 bucks to spend on upgrades right now

*Number 1* thing is getting a new video card

I currently have a
E6850 Duo Core 2 3.0 GHZ
2GB PC6400 DDR2 PC6400
Nforce 650i Ultra NON-SLi
650 Watt ANTEC PSU
Windows XP Pro

I was considering getting Windows Vista 64-bit and more ram so I can utilize it with Vista 64 as well, any good ideas??

PS- sorry for soo much posts, I don't know what to do right now, lots of options..

You should get a 4870 an a 22" monitor. Your cpu is sweet, and ram is fine.

Ok so basically I was thinking upgrade to a 9800GTX OC

and

2GBx1 corsair memory
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] u=C13-2022

Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium

and for future proofing SLi compatible PCI-E 2.0 support, the P5N-D 750i motherboard, so I can add another 9800GTX OC later if I need..

what do you guys think?

i'd then have

E6850 Duo Core 2 3.0 Ghz
PNY XLR8 GeForce 9800 GTX OC 512MB GDDR3
Asus P5N-D Motherboard - NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI, PCI-E 2.0
4GB PC6400 DDR2 800mhz
Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium
650 Watt Antec PSU

is that too much for now maybe wait on the motherboard? any thoughts?

mf2385, since you only have a 17 inch monitor. I would suggest the Radeon 4850.

well I can get a Crossfire ready motherboard and 2 4850s and upgrade to another 1gb of ram 512x2 pc6400 to 3gbpc6400 whats up with that? I have a 650 watt ANTEC PSU, I can do that and wait on Vista and 4gb for now?

IDK if I should wait for the 4870x2. I don't think I need all that power, it's not like im running a huge monitor or multiple monitors or anything, I just have kind of a low res monitor and I want a video card that will play any game well out now and for awhile, thats basically it.

any help on that?

I was just looking at the xfx 9800GTX black edition, looks like a power hungry monster!! core clock 760mhz and 128 stream processors not bad for now and for the not to distant future... it would def last me a year, what do we think about that card?

it's either going to be an xfx 9800GTX black edition or GTX 260 FTW edition, my purchase, the 4870 looks good too but im not a big ATi fan because of the past ATi cards I've had, even tho the 4870 is a monster, still unsure

basically I think of it this way

EVGA 260 GTX FTW Edition > Sapphire ATi radeon 4870 > 9800GTX xfx black edition

but, the 4870's value is soo good, and it beats the regular gtx 260 easily, and I can OC the 4870 right? I like the sapphire brand too its #1 brand for it now, am I wrong? picking between those 3 basically now..
