Hey there everyone

Looking to build a new gaming rig soon. I'm up here in Canada so the prices up here are a little different than down in the US. I can get 2 evga 8800gt's for $130 each or a single 4850 from various companies for about $225. Any thoughts?

directcanada.com should be able to get you a 4850 for cheaper than 225$ I would think

2 8800 gt's means you have to use an nforce board, and while I own 2 that i'm perfectly happy with, a lot of people have issues with them.

2 gt s will outperform a single HD 4850 in the majority of tests but you can get a HD 4850 for much cheaper, I got mine for 160$ Ca, newegg has it for 175 with free shipping http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103060, if you have a crossfire capable motherboard you should put 2 HD 4850 and you will have the same power as a GTX 280 and even faster sometimes for much less $ but If you already have a 8800gt and an SLI motherboard just get another gt

if you have a few more bucks to spare, you could go for the 4870 $270 range U.S., wouldnt be a bad move for a single card solution, and then you wont have to worry about driver support for sli.

Cool, thanks for the tips guys......directcanada has a diamond 4850 for $174.

Newegg ships to Canada and there are no extra taxes or penalties?

Newegg doesnt ship to canada. Why not get 2 4850s and a crossfire INTEL mobo which will well outperform 2 8800 gts

2 4850s are way past my card budget....but directcanada does have a 4870 for $269. I've always gone for the well rated low-to mid budget card. Which the 4850 at $173 fits like a glove but the 4870 for $100 more is tempting.

2 8800GT's will smoke a 4850, probably a 4870 too.
I'm surprised you haven't recommended the 3870x2.

Sorry monkey boy, but that card will smoke your GT's.

95fps can be achieved with a single card that has a single GPU.

Well hitting 95fps and averaging 95fps are two different things. I consistantly hit 95fps with my 256mb card but at 1280 x 1024 and I average about 65fps.
