I'm looking into buying this card for my aging AGP system...

...but I don't understand how to hook it up to my PSU/mobo. I have spare 4-pin connectors that would satisfy the layout from the pictures. Does that black connector labeled "power cable" NEED to be plugged into the motherboard or can I just use my spare 4 pin connectors? I don't have a place to plug the black connector into my motherboard, that's my only concern.

It plugs into your spare molex connectors from your power supply with the two 4 pin connectors and the 8 pin connector into the card.
Make sure that your power supply is big enough to handle that card.

Sapphire recommends 450watt with 30amps on the +12 volt rail

Mine is 400W- some reviews claimed that a 400W was sufficient, but I still might buy a 500W. How do I determine if a PSU has 30amps on the +12volt rail?

It should be on a sticker on the side of the PSU example below
