Ok, I am unsure if I am being thick or a little blind.

My dad had kindly bought me his laptop to liik at (thanks dad) because he's fcuked it again and it requires a clean image.

THe issue is he has put a password on his laptop so I cannot alter the boot sequence.
I stripped it to do a hard reset of BIOS (of what I though was the battery) put it together and then ran it again.

The problem is that either I got the wrong component or I did not keep it out long enough (I removed it for, just to be sure a full hour)

I contacted Acer and all they can reply with is 'mate, give us £50 and we'll do it for you'

The only thing I can think is to remove the HDD and then clean image it on another machine.

I have also tried the manual to see where the BOIS is kept but to no avail.

Does anyone know where it is located?
I will google to see where I can get some software to reset the BIOS.

Regards,
DB

Is an ACER 5101.
Running Win XP SP2.

Yes, their was no power source coming to it while I was stripping it.

I have looked at other forums and other people have said that they have found the batter - I simply can't find one!
I can't even find anything that looks close to it.

@Roadrunner..
If I knew the password I would change it - this is why I am trying to do it this way..

Well your dad made it so he should know it.

The battery is inside under the motherboard. I seriously doubt a theif like yourself has what it takes to disasseble it that far and get it back together again.

@RR
Bless ya, you little fugger.

Don't worry - it is all fixed.
It's one of them little gay soldered batteries.

PS - if you want to start this **** - go to the other section of the forums.
Places like hardware/software isn't the place to start this.
