I got the HP w2408h a couple of weeks ago. I am very satisfied with the monitor and I don't think I could have found a better monitor for me in the same price range (or at all for that matter). I really wanted a 24" glossy screen monitor and there are only three that I know of. This monitor, the Gateway FHD2400 and the Acer P243WAid. The Gateway has gotten great reviews, BUT many users say that there is horrible backlight bleeding after the monitor is used for 2 or 3 weeks. This is something that wasn't mentioned in any reviews probably because it had not showed up yet. I did not want to have to deal with sending the monitor back and exchanging it if I got a bad one. I could not not find any reviews on the Acer, but I am guessing that it isn't anything spectacular, but it probably isn't horrible either. The HP monitor also comes with either a LG or Samsung panel if that matters to you at all.
Some pros for the HP are that it is a glossy screen, 92% color gamut (does this mean it's 8 bit????), great height adjustability, the actual lcd screen goes from being 1.75" off of my desk to a max of 5.5" (some monitors don't even have any height adjustment), minimal backlight bleeding (there is about a 1/8" thick strip maybe 10 to 12" long that runs along the bottom of the screen that is pretty noticeable otherwise there is minimal lighter spots along the edge, but none are distracting and the monitor can stretch, keep the same aspect ratio and stretch or 1:1 pixel map, which is nice, also I have not noticed any motion blur or ghosting and it has 4 USB ports that seem to work even though I've only used 1 or 2.
Some of the cons would be that the monitor exhibits banding in dark colors (i.e. if you have a fade from red to dark red the fade won't look gradual and even it will look like there are strips of different color running up and down). Also some of the colors look over saturated to me, but it has a delta E of 1.5ish after calibration which is average. The edge collects fingerprints very fast. Poor viewing angles, but that is to be expected from a TN panel and I sit directly in front of my monitor so its not like the viewing angles make any difference to me.
Below I have listed some reviews of this monitor that you might want to check out.
Thanks for the great review animal_chin! I will keep that in mind.
To aevm, thanks for the input however the Samsung 245BW does not have a glossy screen coating, which I am looking for (probably should have mentioned that).
Thanks for the suggestion though.
Please try to keep recommendations to the 4 screens listed.
