8600gts and 8800gts

Okay so my friend has a 8600gts and i have 8800gts and he knows mine is more powerful so he asked me to underclock my card to the exact level that his card would be, so I went on a website to compare the two cards and find what the core clock, memory clock, and shader clock was and suprisingly the 8600gts had had higher core clocks, mem clocks, and shader clocks then my 8800gts. Isn't the 8800gts more powerful, I am confused.

now, i'm making up the numbers here a bit, but say you have 8600 at 700mhz and 8800 at 500, now compare the fact that the 8800 has 120ish processing units, compared to roughly half that number in the 8600 (btw, is that 8800 the 640 or 512 version?), and even thats not an accurate way of describing it, because there are other major differences in architecture, so just be confident and say the 8800 rapes the 8600

I have the 640mb version. I know that the 8800gts rapes the 8600gts but the core clock, mem clock, and shader clock, are all larger on the 8600gts so i basically have to overclock my card now in order to tell my friend how well his 8600gts will handle, i am guessing there are other elements in a videocard that determine power and couldn't be changed.

Right, that's where bus width, number of stream processors, and possibly amount of ram come into play.
