OK i started off with a $700 build but i am getting a bonus from work so i decided to up the ante a bit.
Here is what i am looking at doing.

- Antec Sonata III 500 w/ Eartwatts 500w PSU
- MSI P45 Neo3-FR LGA 775 Intel P45
- Radeon HD 4870
- Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale
- G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
- Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500AAKS 250GB
- SAMSUNG 22X DVD
- Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit
- ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro

my total is a little over $1000
Since i am upping my GPU to the 4870 do i need to upgrade my case/psu? Am i going to have any other issues as far with my Mobo in this case? I've never done a build from the ground up before. You guys are a huge help.
Thanks

i would not suggest getting the sonata case. thats what i have and it really does not get good air flow. get ether the antec 900 or the antec 300 and put some fans in it. the earthwatts psu has really low amps i am trying to find out if its enough to power the 4870. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/251569-28-quick-power-suppply-question#t1834962

how much are you spending with out the os? how much is the ram?

and thats a nice mobo. it will fit fine in ether case you get.

You should be OK with that PSU. 500Watt (or greater) PSU is what the 4870 MFGRs are recommending: http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/products/products_overview.php?gpid=245
Look under System Requirements.
Because the 4870s double slot cooler dumps the majority of hot GPU air outside the case you should be OK with the Sonata too.
If you're priority isnt getting a quiet case some other cases do cool better than Sonata III.
COOLER MASTER Centurion RC-590 $70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119152&Tpk=coolermaster%2b590
Corsair 550VX PSU $90 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139004
or COOLER MASTER Real Power Pro 550 $60 (after rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171025

ilovebarney,
The price is $948 w/o the OS and the Ram is $90 after a $40 instant rebate.

I'd rather have a case that does both well (pretty quiet and good cooling)

OMG, that motherboard has 4 PCI slots. THANK YOU! I was trying to find one like that :)

Your build looks fine to me. Maybe add $35 and upgrade the HDD to WD6400AAKS, it's much faster and 2.5 times bigger. If necessary, dump the Freezer to save some cash. The Freezer is not really necessary unless you overclock, and if you overclock you shouldn't get the Sonata anyway.

The 900 is great for OC'ing....you can leave the fans on low and still move enough air through the case to keep everything cool....and it's pretty quiet!

ok. Here is what i've decided.
COOLER MASTER RC-690 and
CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX

also i decided to change my CPU Cooler to the
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 w/ Retention bracket

Also i noticed they dropped the rebate on the ram i wanted so i switched it to
OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB)
