Onboard video is terrible for games. You should defiantly pick up a dedicated card. What components have you picked out so far for the computer? Budget? Primary uses?
im planning to buy a new pc and i decided to buy a motherboard with built in vga/svga card
is built in vga card good for gaming? for 3d games i'll put 3 gb ram
any suggestions?
No.
Also you do not need more than 2GB of ram if you use XP as an OS.
The last systems I built use a $100 AMD 6000+ dual core with 2GB of RAM and a fixed 2GB of page file with XP Home OS.
I run 4 security programs (one blocks 1,169,125,052 IP #'s from my custom block list),run 10 torrent files and play Frontlines:Fule of War all at the same time and only use 46% of my -physical- RAM.
See my forum profile for my older (3 year old) systems (7) that I have for my game LAN. They are OC'ed 50% on air and stock volts.

dont get a board with built in graphics if you want to game with the new games. try this
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core $130.00
ASUS P5K SE EPU LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard $90.00
ATI 4850 Graphics card $189.00
That comes to 409. and will have a good system for gaming
I've got a GA-M750SLI-DS4 board it it works great. Its like $140, which is pretty good for a gaming board. You should check that out if your on an AMD platform.
