I want to connect a digital caliper to a palm ; the caliper has a 4 pint SPC
data port. I can buy a spc interface adaptor that ends in a 9 pin
connection. Is there a palm that has a standard serial port ?

I have attempted to do this with a proprietary interface and a five pin
digital caliper. It has not worked ( Nsbasic and other high level languages'
serial calls do not read incoming data, and the caliper "data" button
simply initiates a hotsync , and no data transfer.) I am thus abandoning
the Dataget port and looking for any other method of getting serial data
into a Palm.

Any advice on any of these issues is gratefully welcomed

The older Palms use a serial cable, that can be used together with an
null-modem connector to communicate with other serial devices. If you
are using a USB Palm device, the serial comm leads are in the cradle,
and can be brought out to an extra connector. Details can be found
here:

I have used both HotPaw Basic and HB++ for serial comm applications,
with good results in both cases.

Have fun,
