and while Im at it whats better the 3870 HD or the 4870 HD?
just wondering - 'cause I remember reading like 2 months ago that the 3870 HD is the fastest on the planet.
Are you sure the 8800GT beats the 1950x pro? If you are, can you make comaprison and bring the pros and cons? And by the way - does the 8800gt beats the 1950x PRO by far?

Whoever told you that was wrong. There were better cards at the time, like the 8800gt.

The 1950x is more or less obsolete at this point.
The 8800GT and 3870 are about equal in preformance, although the 8800GT is probably a little better overall
The 4870HD is (with the exception of the 4870X2) the best card on the planet right now.

Don't forget the GTX280
@OP: The X1950 pro will be left in the dust by any of the other cards mentioned in this thread, but the HD4870 is the best performing card right now that doesn't cost a fortune, followed closely by the GTX260. The 8800GT is still well ahead of the X1950 pro, but lags a bit behind the HD4850 which often costs only a small amount more.

OVERCLOCKED and watercooled 8800GT beats both 4850 and 4870 and probably 4870X2 too.
Yea, for the short time that the required voltage would allow the card to live.
Truth. Chances are you'd fry the card before you even saw a pixel if you wanted to try to make it as fast as the 4870. And where the hell did all these people come from that give advice on crap they know nothing about? What happened to all the old Tom's gurus? This thread is full of total crap posted by almost everyone except randomizer here.
x1950pro is 2 years past its prime. But in its prime it was a hell of a good card.
The 3870 was never as fast as the 8800GT 512. Until the launch of the 4850, the 8800GT 512 was the best bang for the buck card out. The 3870 was never ever the fastest card on the planet. The 3870X2 was for a very short time considered possibly the fastest on the planet, but it lagged behind the 8800 Ultra on a few benches so its wasn't the absolute king. The 9800GX2 is faster than the 3870X2.
For $150-$170, the 4850 is the best card for the money right now. Period.
The 4870 isn't and was never the fastest card on the planet. The GTX 280 is notably faster than it. For a premium price.

If you play games like i do - with 8x anti aliasing(aa)- than 4870 IS the fastest card on the planet. gtx 280 comes close- in performance, not price.
If for some reason, you like your edges jaggy and ugly and want to play with 4x aa or less, gtx 280 is actually faster than hd 4870. Although, its still more expensive.
