I've made the decision to go with LCD technology and the Sharp Aquos 37"
based on our needs, reviews and seating distance. What I need to figure out
is how the whole system comes together, ie: what additional pieces will I
need and where they'll go. I'm due for a new computer anyhow. So I was
assuming I'd buy a Windows Media Center PC as my new work computer (I have a
home-based graphic design biz so need lots of power) and I'll keep my old
desktop as a second system to store backup files on. .Where I get fuzzy is
if the computer then serves as the tuner and dvd player/recorder, etc? I
want to keep the number of pieces to a minimum. All is networked. We're
hoping he'll be able to use a wireless keyboard and sit in the livingroom
surfing the net on the new TV. The media center would be in my office
though. Sorry if this is classic "dumb" questions. I'm just not quiet seeing
it. Thanks for your patience and help.

With the MCE PC in your office and the TV in the LR you need to:

1. remote the PC video - run a VGA, DVI/HDMI or component output cable from
the office to LR. Make sure your MCE has a vid card with 2 outputs (VGA and
DVI). You can run component over cat5.
2. remote the IR for the MCE remote and your keyboard - use a IR reperater
from smarthome
3. Remote the MCE PC sound - run a RCA or coax digitial cable from your MCE
soundcard to your TV or AV system in the LR

another option is to get the XBOX or standalone Media Center Extender. Its
remotes the entire Media Center thing. Xbox 360 has this built in.
