Different brand memory on same board
Sep 23, 2008, 11:13 PM
Hey guys. I am considering upgrading my PC. I already have 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800 from Patriot.
I am going to buy another 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800... Except the brand will be OCZ.
Will I have any problems doing this? Should I just get 4GB for the upgrade/new PC (I'm getting a new mobo as well) or is it OK to mix and match brands?

different brand memory board

You can mix brands however, your ram will most likely run in single channel mode. Also, 4 ram sticks are harder to OC than 2. It would probably be worth it to upgrade to a 4gb kit.

Alright, I've decided on buying 4GB (2x2GB) instead of adding another 2. Managed to get a good combo deal on newegg.com
Thanks for the input!
